Allan graduated Wilfrid Laurier University with a degree in Music Performance (Tuba). He has been the featured tuba soloist with several ensembles across Southern Ontario including the Wellington Winds, Windjammers, The Mississauga Pops, and many community bands. Some highlights include sharing the spotlight with Luba Goy (Royal Canadian Air Farce), performing under Johan de Meij (Renowned Wind Ensemble Composer) for several Canadian premieres, and working with Margaret Hillis (Chicago Symphony Chorus). His passion for the modern wind band has taken him on a wonderful journey that now includes graduate studies in Conducting at Temple University. He has been music director for the Waterloo Concert Band, the Galt Kiltie Band, and the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra. If you were to have a look at Allan’s playlists, you might be surprised and somewhat confused. Of course you will find a lot of brass band and wind band. You will also see soundtracks and showtunes. Where it gets interesting is when you find the Scandinavian opera metal, assorted acapella choruses (Home Free for example), and even a German heavy metal band combining with a military wind ensemble. In the end … it is all about the music and having fun both listening and making it.
