Nigel
Evans began his musical career with nine years service in the British Army
finishing as Co-Principal Horn of the Royal Artillery Band and Orchestra.
During this period he made many tours to Europe frequently, made several
recordings and performed at many state and ceremonial occasions, including for
Her Majesty the Queen at
Buckingham
Palace.
As a french horn player he
has worked professionally with many ensembles including the City of
Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Windsor Symphony
Orchestra, Concert Players Orchestra and Brassroots
brass ensemble. He has had the privilege of working with some of the
world’s finest conductors, composers and performers including John Adams, Pierre
Boulez, Lawrence Foster, Stephen Kovacevich, Kent
Nagano, Sir Simon Rattle and GennadiRozhdestvensky.
His conducting experience includes work with orchestras, wind ensembles and
choirs. He has studied conducting with Andrew Mogrelia
(San Francisco Ballet) and Dr. Colin Durrant (University of
London) and has taken part in workshops with Dr.
Denise Grant (
Portland
State
University), Rodney Winther
(Cincinnati Conservatory), Dr. James Jordan (Westminster
Choir
College) and Richard Blatti
(Ohio
State
University).
Nigel
is currently the head of music at Sir Frederick Banting S.S. in
London
and is working on a Fellowship diploma in conducting through the Royal Schools
of Music. Nigel has been conductor of the Stratford Concert Band since
2001.
Laurence Gauci, Assistant Conductor
BMus, BEd
Laurence Gauci has been a member of the Stratford Concert Band since
1993. He is currently in the percussion section, and has played saxophone and
tuba in the past. Laurence holds Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education
degrees from the
University of
Western Ontario, and has pursued graduate studies in
conducting at the
University
of
Hartford.
Laurence is the Musical Director and pianist for the Festival City
Big Band in
Stratford,
and plays in various other groups, including the rock band Illusion and the pit
orchestras for the New Hamburg and Stratford Community Players. When not making
music, Laurence teaches people how to fly at the
London
Airport.
